I ran across this thought-provoking article by Michael Lind today. Michael Lind is policy director of the Economic Growth Program at the New America Foundation.

The article basically says that due to: outsourcing, cheap immigrant labor, and emerging markets, the rich have a decreasing dependence on the middle and lower class. While I don’t agree with everything in the article, it sure makes you think. Our government should be looking at these trends and addressing accoudingly. Unfortunately, it is difficult to get elected to national office unless you are rich and/or sold out to rich people!

Last night, Mike Huckabee had a great suggestion for getting started on Immigration reform. A “comprehensive” solution, he said, means “gridlock”. He suggested we start with “one thing” (with a reference to Curly in the movie City Slickers). That one thing is to secure the border. What a common-sense approach. Regardless of what we choose to do, we need to secure our borders first. Without that, nothing else is really worth doing anyway. It would, in fact, solve the problem over a long period of time all by itself. Kudos to Mike Huckabee for being a voice of reason.
