John Boehner’s Leader Alert today is titled “As Americans Ask “Where Are the Jobs?” Obama Advisor Pushes for Even More Tax Hikes”. It talks about Paul Volcker’s (President Obama’s advisor) recommendation to implement a Value Added Tax (VAT). As the article explains, this will increase costs and cause further job losses.

The article also includes details on other job killing legislation including:

ObamaCare

Energy taxes (aka “Cap and Trade”)

$3.8 Trillion dollar budget

The last thing we need is more spending and more taxes. Our economy will collapse from these dangerous policies. What happened to “Pay-Go”?

And let’s not forget the socialist takeover of private industry including:

Banks (TARP)

Insurance (AIG)

Automotive (GM)

Health Care (ObamaCare)

Housing (Fannie & Freddie)

Education (student loan take over in Health Care bill)

All of these job/economy killing policies were also voted for by Patrick Murphy. Let’s stay motivated and vote them both out!

Today’s signing, by President Obama, of the healthcare bill continues the systematic takeover of private business by the progressive movement. With the help of Patrick Murphy’s votes, our government has taken over the following:

The banks (TARP)

The automotive industry (GM)

The housing industry (Freddie and Fannie)

Health-care (with the added benefit of giving enforcement to the IRS)

Education financing (part of the health-care bill gives the government full control over student loans – except for one bank as a bribe to it’s member of Congress)

And all of this with no cuts to any other programs. This is all financially unsustainable and detrimental to job creation (wasn’t that supposed to be the number one priority. Next on the list, illegal immigration amnesty reform. It’s going to take a LOT of work to undo this mess. I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL NOVEMBER 2010.

Our representatives are discussing several options to pass this flawed and economically destructive Health Care Bill. These options include reconciliation (also known as the “nuclear option”) and Scheme and Deem (also known as the “Slaughter Solution”).

Although reconciliation may be Constitutional, it’s just plain wrong to stretch “rules” made by the House and Sentate so far. Clearly, our founders had more ethical behavior in mind. “Scheme and Deem” is,in my opinion, un-Constitutional. Article 1, Section 7 of the Constitution says:

Every Bill which have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it becomes a Law, be presented to the President of the United States…

Our representatives are clearly out of control. Please stay vigilant in holding them accountable for their actions!

I realize that our government representatives have always obtained unfair and unconstitutional favors in exchange for their vote. However, it is really sad that we have reached the point where they publically admit to ignoring the will of the people they represent (because they know better) and the Constitution they swore to protect and defend.

I don’t claim to be a constitutional legal expert, but the following words make it clear to me that the favorable treatment obtained by Senator Nelson of Nebraska, and many others, are indeed unconstitutional:

Article 1, Section 9 – “No Preference thall be given by any Regulation of Commerce of Revenue to the Ports of one State over those of another;…”

Artitle 4, Section 2 – “The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to the Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States”

Just because this has been “the way it is”, doesn’t mean it is the “way it has to be”. We need to stay engaged and remove these “non-representatives” from Washington. As Thomas Jefferson said:

We in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.

The majority do not want this type of health care reform or this type of politician. Let’s be both the “majority” and the “majority who participate”. Together, we can change this!

It appears that our representatives in Washington have finally gotten around to discussing the creation of private sector jobs. I welcome these discussions, although they are long overdue, as private sector jobs are the only real way to set our economy on the path to sustained growth. Washington is, however, ignoring a major contributor to our economic situation; the fear of the unknown. Businesses do not know what the new “rules of the game” are going to be and are clearly in a holding pattern waiting to find out. For example:

Will the government decide to bailout one of their competitors or perhaps even take them over because they are “too big to fail”? Will they need to compete with the government?

Will Cap & Trade pass and drastically increase their energy costs?

Will health care reforms raise their cost of labor by as much as eight percent?

Will out of control spending continue causing inflation and/or higher taxes?

Will the Bush tax cuts expire? What will the new tax brackets be?

What will happen to employer paid taxes including: corporate taxes, Social Security, Medicare, excise taxes, etc.?

I believe that:

Taxes should not be increased and no new taxes should be created.

Spending should be frozen at pre-bailout levels until our budget is balanced.

Any additional spending, for programs such as health care reform, needs to be offset by spending reductions elsewhere.

Increasing government spending and taxes will cause additional job loss (both blue collar and white collar).

We need to set a clear direction so our businesses know that we are serious about creating an environment that rewards entrepreneurship, creates good paying jobs, and eliminates the “fear of the unknown”.

The house health care bill passed by a slim margin. I am all for health care reform, but am against the increased government spending, control, and intrusion. I’m amazed how supporters can claim that it’s “budget neutral” and it the next sentence say it costs $1.3 Trillion dollars. If it were truly “neutral”, there would be offsetting reductions in spending (I bet they never even thought of that). Government already controls about half of the health care spending through: Medicaid, Medicare, VA, and government worker health insurance. If government competition is so good, and they already control half the market, why do we have a problem? Taking control from big insurance and giving it to big government is not what we need. We need reform that gives control and responsibility to patients.

What will the true economic impact of this additional spending and control? Our economy is already hurting and this bill will add up to 10.5 percent to payroll costs (8% penalty for businesses and 2.5% penalty for individuals). I have watched many friends, family members, and colleagues lose their jobs to outsourcing and insourcing (bringing foreign workers into the US). There are many financial incentives for businesses to do this. Adding an additional 10.5% to payroll costs will only increase these incentives.

Our economy can not afford to lose any more jobs!

This morning on Fox & Friends, they had a segment with Governor Ed Rendell (PA) and Governor Charlie Crist (FL). Florida has negotiated with six insurance companies and are offering different private health care insurance plans for an average of $150 per month. Governor Rendell said that he had tried to bring United Health into Pennsylvania but they couldn’t compete because of restrictions in the current insurers “clauses” with health care providers. Sounds like an anti-trust issues to me.

Coincidentally, I saw a tweet for an article titled “Democrats want to revoke insurance’s antitrust exemption in healthcare reform bill”. Apparantly, health care insurers and Major League Baseball are the only two industries that are exempt from Antitrust laws.

Regardless of your position on health care, I think we can all get behind increasing competition and making our Antitrust laws apply to everyone! It’s only common-sense.

According to the AMA’s 2008 National Health Insurer Report Card (see Metric 12), Medicare is number one in denied claims (at 6.85%).

Did you know that the original Medicare bill had language stating that a doctors decision could not be overruled and that reimbursement could not be limited? Obviously, that has changed. Keep this in mind when you’re told that the ”public option” will allow you to keep your own doctor and will not deny care.

Our government does have a responsibility to “promote the general welfare” of all Americans’. This is why they can, and should, reform the health care system. However, they have a bad track record of running anything and should not be handed more control over our health care and our lives. We already have two “public options”, Medicaid and Medicare, that need to be cleaned up!
