Medicare #1 in denied claims

According to the AMA’s 2008 National Health Insurer Report Card (see Metric 12), Medicare is number one in denied claims (at 6.85%).

Did you know that the original Medicare bill had language stating that a doctors decision could not be overruled and that reimbursement could not be limited?  Obviously, that has changed.  Keep this in mind when you’re told that the ”public option” will allow you to keep your own doctor and will not deny care.

Our government does have a responsibility to “promote the general welfare” of all Americans’.  This is why they can, and should, reform the health care system.  However, they have a bad track record of running anything and should not be handed more control over our health care and our lives.  We already have two “public options”, Medicaid and Medicare, that need to be cleaned up!

    Jeff,

I think you need to be careful with the “general welfare” clause of the Constitution. That clause does not grant government the power to require healthcare coverage for all citizens, regardless of the supplier of that coverage.

“Unlike most General Welfare clauses, the clause in the U.S. Constitution has been interpreted as a limitation on the power of the United States Congress to use its powers of taxing and spending. The narrow construction of the General welfare Clause is atypical when compared to similar clauses in most State constitutions, and many constitutions of other countries.”

    Thanks,
    Pete
