Common Sense – Increase healthcare competition

This morning on Fox & Friends, they had a segment with Governor Ed Rendell (PA) and Governor Charlie Crist (FL). Florida has negotiated with six insurance companies and are offering different private health care insurance plans for an average of $150 per month. Governor Rendell said that he had tried to bring United Health into Pennsylvania but they couldn’t compete because of restrictions in the current insurers “clauses” with health care providers. Sounds like an anti-trust issues to me.

Coincidentally, I saw a tweet for an article titled “Democrats want to revoke insurance’s antitrust exemption in healthcare reform bill”.   Apparantly, health care insurers and Major League Baseball are the only two industries that are exempt from Antitrust laws.

Regardless of your position on health care, I think we can all get behind increasing competition and making our Antitrust laws apply to everyone!  It’s only common-sense.
